My Community, My Hospital
The My Community, My Hospital Campaign is focused on combatting lack of adequate healthcare in Georgia resulting from too many hospital closures across the state. We organize in the community to build power for residents to reclaim and support the reopening of hospitals and healthcare centers in their areas.
- Between 2011 and 2015, eight hospitals closed in rural Georgia.
- In 2022, Atlanta Medical Center—one of two level one trauma centers caring for mostly Black patients with low-incomes—closed altogether leaving hundreds of thousands of Georgians without access to critical healthcare.
With a focus on Atlanta and rural counties in southwest Georgia, My Community, My Hospital seeks an end to hospital closures and the establishment of more hospital, ambulatory, and outpatient services in Georgia.
Demands
- End hospital closure in Georgia, especially when there is no plan to transfer care.
- Reopen Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta.
- Open supplemental health center that meets the needs of the Old Fourth Ward community.
- Increased rural access to care in Stewart, Calhoun, and Randolph Counties.
- Lift restrictions on advanced practice nurses to provide care that will enhance value for the Black healthcare consumer.
