How to Vote by Absentee Ballot Steps (Active Voter)?

If you are a registered and active voter in the state of Georgia and want to ensure that you are eligible to vote by mail in the 2020 elections, follow these steps:

  1. Receive your APPLICATION for an absentee ballot in the mail. If you have not received the absentee ballot application or request form, complete your absentee ballot application which you can find online here: https://sos.ga.gov/admin/files/Fillable%20Absentee%20Ballot%20Form%2020.pdf 
  2. Fill out the application and mail it back to the county registrar in order to receive your absentee ballot
  3. You may find the addresses and information for all of Georgia’s county registrars here: https://elections.sos.ga.gov/Elections/countyregistrars.do 
  4. Receive your ABSENTEE BALLOT in the mail (sample ballots below
  5. Fill out your absentee ballot. Instructions to complete the absentee ballot can be found here: https://georgia.gov/vote-absentee-ballot 
  6. Once you have mailed in your ballot or drop it off at your polling location. Your polling location can be found here: https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do
  7. Once your ballot has been submitted, it will go through an approval process to verify the authenticity.

How to Vote by Absentee Ballot Steps (Inactive voter)?
  1. Are you an inactive Georgian voter? That’s okay. Follow our steps to make sure your vote gets counted in the upcoming elections.

    There are multiple ways to request the APPLICATION for an absentee ballot:
    • Your name 
    • Date of birth 
    • Registration address
    • Temporary out of county address to which the ballot should be sent (if applicable)
    • Type of election you intend to be voting in (presidential preference primary, general primary, primary runoff, municipal, municipal runoff, special, general, general runoff) 
    • Name of party ballot being requested (for primaries: Democratic, Republican, or Independent). 
    • Date of election (for example: June 9, 2020)
    • Your signature including the date of the request (or the dated signature and the relationship of the person requesting the ballot on your behalf.)

  • You can also request an absentee application by contacting the registrar or absentee ballot clerk in the county where you are registered to vote.

How to Vote Absentee Ballot Steps (Not Registered)?

Not registered to vote but eager to have your voice heard in the upcoming elections? Follow the steps below to get registered.

  1. First, check the status of your voter registration online at mvp.sos.ga.gov
  2. If you’re not registered to vote, click on “Register”
  3. Follow the prompts to register online. In order to register you will need the following:
  • A valid driver’s license or identification card issued by GA Department of Driver Services (DDS) with signature on file with DDS.
    • If you do not have a valid driver’s license or identification card, the link below will allow you to manually submit a paper registration. (click here)
  • Completing all of the required fields will auto-fill your application. To complete the application process you must print, sign, and mail your application to your county registrar.
  1. Receive your voter registration card in the mail or check online for updated information at mvp.sos.ga.gov
  2. Repeat inactive voter steps (1-6)
